Engineered wood or aluminium window frames

What do you mean nobody wants to renovate them. If they haven't failed, you can remove glass, remove rust, prime, paint and reglaze. I am pretty sure you can get a person to do this, but to be frank if it is not collapsing what is there to renovate, like painting a fence
They don't look great, I spoke to two companies who would only do them in situ if there was no rust. As its not a listed building they would not remove and do off site, their usual process. We can't open them and they are single glazed, one window you can't shut property so in winter it's not the best.
I am conflicted about getting rid of them as I hate removing original features that have lasted nearly 90 years and form part of the character of the property.0 -

Please go on eBay and have a look at prices of old rusted critall windows.
Tell them what you want them to do, remove, restore and refit, agree on a price. Do a bit of research. Change glass to modern toughened ones. You might even get thin double glazing panes. If not fit secondary glazing.
I think you will regret loosing them. Original windows like this cannot be replicated easily.
Get triple track curtains, thermal ones and sew magnets to close at night to insulate better.
Also look around for older people who might restore cheaper and know how to do. Go to online diy forums and ask.0 -
I think the thing is that original windows can indeed be replicated easily with more efficient thermal properties.
You just need to go to the right places.
Removing and restoring windows is one thing if you're not living in a house, but if you are, it's all kinds of hassle.Everything that is supposed to be in heaven is already here on earth.

Thank you. I have a crittall company coming out to quote. I looked on EBay and there are some beautiful crittall windows that have been ripped out. If I do get them changed I will keep them, could get about £600 or more.
Everest was ok actually, they were only here for 20 minutes as I made it clear what I wanted and the quote was cheaper than local companies. This was timber frames as I actually preferred the look despite the maintenance issues.
But once I have all the quotes in I can make a decision but still veering towards replacing with timber unless the crittall can be saved or replaced with something similar.0
