Critical illness claim Zurich

Hello,

Following my Husband's recent HA we have submitted a critical illness claim, the insurers came back a week after submittion to say they had written to our GP to request his medical details. They have explained that they will chase weekly until they get a response and should a month pass without one then they will let us know what the next steps are.
Initially I was worried I'd made a mistake in our application and it would be rejected, I have gone back over it and content everything was answered correctly.
The claim is partially dependent on his troponin levels being above a certain level in accordance with ABI guidelines, we've never seen what his were so can only assume the hospital took them. His cardiac nurse has said that the severity of his HA would meet the criteria.
Being a typical worryer I panic that the hospital never took bloods for this - is this possible?
But sensibly my real question is has anyone been through a critical illness claim and what is the process like? Can we expect lots of questioning and how long does it usually take?

Many thanks

Anna

I'd be amazed if the hospital didn't take blood tests following the heart attack, even if it was a day or so later. The fact that most insurers pay out on 90%+ of all critical illness claims and heart attacks are one of the most common reasons for claiming would suggest that the claim is likely to be valid.

The main issue is sometimes getting the GP to complete the requested report so once you know the request is with them it'd be worthwhile popping to the surgery and explaining the situation. Do expect it to take at least a couple of weeks though.
  • He has an appointment tomorrow with his GP so will get him to give him a reminder, the GP seems very keen to help us so fingers crossed.
Thankfully my Husband has rarely been to doctors for anything so capturing his medical history is pretty straightforward.
    Thank you
