Getting the two confused could be interesting.0 -
A friend (whos a keen gardener whereas I'm a newbie) dropped in for a cuppa just after I posted and reassured me I had miss identified the plant. He believed it was hollyhocks as I planted some in the area the year before that failed.
I was so pleased. I was actually giddy as I've put so much work in the garden. So I have left it alone.
Today however I went out I realised the plant has tripled in size, height (two foot at least under the shrubs) and now has swamped the back of the whole of my main flower bed a small white flower under the leaf - so not a hollyhock.
Grrrrr.
I'm genuinely upset.
I'm going to wait until winter and then try to lift as much as I can out very carefully and then just nuke the whole bed with strong weedkiller. then do it again in the spring - literally, anything that comes up is going to get blasted. then repeat all through summer and next winter.
However, the garden is so small and its the only side the sun hits so the only place there can be a bed - there will be no flowers in the garden next year. I'm currently resisting the urge to pave it all over as i cant control next doors weed problem0
