I'm wondering if anyone has any advice please. It may be a long post as there's a bit of back story and it's quite hard to explain.
So I'm currently setting up a buisness selling handmade soft toys. I've done all my research on CE testing to make sure my products will be safe for children. I understand how my products need to conform and the records I need to keep.
The hardest bit of all this is making sure that all fabric material i use is safe, they have to be tested in a lab for chemical migration, a certificate is given and this is kept as evidence. This can cost £100s of pounds per fabric sample.
There are a couple of groups out there who get materials tested at labs and then members pay for the certificat they require to complete their technical file.
So I've been wanting to go in the main group for a while but have been waiting to be more financially stable as the joining fee is £350 for life. They have a yearly subscription for £100 a year which you can pay quarterly (this is what I've taken out). So I took this membership out on the understanding that I could then purchase certificates from them. I've since discovered that you can't buy individual certificates you must buy "bundles" for between £50-£80 which is fine.
The problem I'm having is they don't specifically say what is in each bundle for example they say.
3x designer fabric
2×mid range fabric
2x budget fabric
3xsewing thread
1xelastic
So there are maybe 10 different bundles none of which saying who the manufacturer of any of the items are so I'm unsure which bundle to buy. It's like pot luck, I don't want to buy bundle "a" if I don't like any of the fabric ompanies and the fabric I really want is in bundle "c".
They have said to ask if there is something specific your looking for I've emailed them a list saying I want to purchase a bundle with 100% cotton and a list of 10 or so fabric companies which I like and asked for their advice on the best bundle to buy then it's not like playing a lucky dip.
They won't tell me and I assume I'm just meant to buy blind. Can't they do this? The only reason I joined the group was to purchase certificates, which I'm not willing to buy blind. I feel like I have waisted my membership fee which I could have invested elsewhere, is there anyway to get this fee back? as I don't feel like they are providing a good service.
If you have stuck with the post this long Thank you very much. I hope there's someone out there tho can offer advice.
Thanks again
Laura

Its a business to business transaction as opposed to a consumer transaction .
Buy blind well it all depends upon the terms and conditions your business signed up to .
Is this yearly fee something that can be cancelled easily ??Or have you in effect signed up for a number of ongoing years.
You need to carry out duel diligence before purchase .0 -

Without being in the know on your particular trade, it does sound like you've stumbled into the middle of a con rather than a seriously professional trade body.
Why can't the suppliers issue the certification directly with your order confirmation or their quote?(Although I could be wrong, I often am.)0
