Moving into a flat and exit fees
Hello,
Sorry if this is a common question, this is my first time moving into a flat that doesn't have everything included.
I am moving into a flat next week but will most likely switch gas and electric suppliers within the first 2 days.
Do I have to pay any exit fees the energy company has for that tarriff? As I didn't start the contract or choose to be with them as I will of only just moved into the flat.
Thank you for your help
Max

you will be on a standard tariff most probably so you are free to move. Ensure you contact whoeever it is with and give meter readings and then switch away as you wish.0

When you move into a house you are automatically on what is termed a deemed tariff with the current supplier. The onus is on you to find out who the current suppliers are and contact them to register with them and give them your opening meter readings (its also wise to take photos of the readings on the gas & electric meters as soon as you have the keys for the house, then you have proof of when you should start being billed for, and won't be chased for usage before you took over the house).
On these deemed tariffs you are free to change to another supplier or fixed contract of your choice straight away, although you will be liable to pay the normally standard variable charges of that deemed contract until the switch goes through.0 -
