Hi,
just a quick answer to a question regarding credit card charges.
I taxed my vehicle on the DVA website but if you wish to use a credit card they charge an extra £2! are they allowed as there was a ban on credit and debit card surcharges which was effective across the EU from Saturday 13th January 2018
so if there was a ban on a charge why does a Government website charge an extra £2 on paying via credit card than debit card?
are the breaking their own rules?
thanks in advance
Debbie

Hi Debbie,
I believe that DVLA is only charging fees for those using a business or corporate credit card. What type of card did you use?I work within the voluntary sector, supporting vulnerable people to rebuild their lives.

no it's not a business one its a personal one. once you select the drop down for payment a select credit card it does not matter if its business or personal there is a charge!
so if they are not allowed why are the government breaking their own rules?

I taxed my car earlier this month online, paid using a personal credit card, and did not incur any surcharge.0

Have you actually paid? Or did you terminate the transaction when the drop-down menu advised of the surcharge? Like I said, it is for business and corporate customers only. If the drop-down menu states otherwise, then it is wrong. I believe that if you went ahead with the transaction, there would be no surcharge.no it's not a business one its a personal one. once you select the drop down for payment a select credit card it does not matter if its business or personal there is a charge!
If you are unsure, then I suggest you ring them and pay, using the card, over the 'phone. There will be no surcharge.I work within the voluntary sector, supporting vulnerable people to rebuild their lives.

They're not breaking any laws, because they don't charge for personal credit cards.0

I stop transaction! if that's the case they do not make it very clear.
AS far as i remember it just states £2 charge on credit cards, it doses not state £2 charge on business cards

It even says on the V11 what cards do and do not incur a surcharge
