Hello on this soggy Tuesday afternoon.

Day of today and I've finally been able to venture out with DS2 as his spots have now all scabbed over and he's generally much better. So we, along with DS1, have been for a walk to the park and managed to only get caught in one downpour but we all had our waterproofs on so no harm done.

DH's knee has recovered from the stumble so is now back to his usual pain levels  he has however finally received an appointment letter to attend a pre-operation assessment next Friday so hopefully this means an operation is imminent - he's due to have a large cyst removed (at the last MRI it was 4 inches round  ) and then while he's under the surgeon's knife there'll be some further exploration as he's in an immense amount of pain which is affecting his mobility and his consultant is at a loss as to what is causing so much pain, he says it's unlikely to be the cyst causing this. This has been ongoing for around 3 years now so poor DH is really at then end of his tether so literally can't wait for surgery to try to see if the can fix the issues.

In money news, Sunday and Monday were NSD's, had to do a small top up grocery shop today.

My mum also kindly gave us (and my 2 brothers) £400 yesterday, it was easier to accept it than have an [STRIKE]argument[/STRIKE] discussion :o buuuut it's my Mum who is our Family Loan debt so we're not comfortble accepting such a generous gift when we still owe her thousands. She's fully aware of our CC debt and her much appreciated input saved us taking out another card to finish our building work, she didn't want to be paid back but we're adamant we will.

As a compromise, it was agreed we'd give her a token repayment amount of £50 per month while we're paying down the credit cards and then ramp up the repayments to her later on once the cards are paid off.

To cut a long story short, we've paid the £400 off CC1 but have added £400 to the total we owe Mum and just won't tell her ;) she's so disinterested in us paying her back that she'll be none the wiser we'll have done this so seems like the best option to keep us all happy. Probably makes more sense to me than anyone else but thought I'd record it here in the interest of keeping our debt journey honestly recorded.

Minimum payment went out to CC2 today so signature updated to reflect the decreases to both CC's and the increase to the family loan :(
  • How lovely of your mum... personally, if she's giving the same amount to your brothers, I'd be inclined to accept it as the gift she wants it to be and not add it onto the amount you're paying back. Might just be me being mercenary though!!

Your poor OH... I had knee surgery at the beginning of the year, just an arthroscopy for a tear. The niggling pain beforehand was very tiring, so I feel for your husband; 3 years of bad pain must be unbearable. Hope they can sort it out...

  • Hope your knee is better now OhS, DH had an athroscopy last year which failed to provide any answers so here's hoping the next operation does!

I don't think you're a mercenary, we did consider keeping the money but Mum is ridiculously generous already (especially with the boys). She says it's because her other grandchildren are all young adults (my brothers had children when they were fairly young and I started when I was fairly old :rotfl:). She keeps saying she won't see my 2 grow up so they can have what they like now so they've had the same as the older grandkids, some dark but loving logic there in her head bless her! :p

I fully believe she'll make it to 100, she's in incredible health and looks years younger thanks he is, she's just amazing.
  • Bless. it's lovely she's trying to keep it all even.
Knee is so much better, 98% better anyway. Was a relief to be able to do things like kneel down or walk miles without it swelling up, it's easy to take good health for granted. It's the first op I've ever had and I was quite scared about it, but it was so painful before that I almost looked forward to it! Makes you wonder what old age is like?!

  • Oh I'm pleased you had a good result, that's good to hear. I understand what you mean about almost looking forward to the op. DH is exactly the same, hope he doesn't have to wait too long.
  • A quiet few days here in the DITR household. Not much to report as still no more overpayments (booo) but at least the debt continues to come down slowly (yaaayy). Still not feeling the love for YNAB but will continue until the end of the trial. Surveys and ebay activity still slow at the minute but I guess as long as the debt is decreasing then that's a positive, however boring things seem at the moment. Hope everyone else is doing well xx
  • Plodding on, still not much to report - work busy & home life ticking over, almost a bit boring at the moment so to cheer myself up I've just sent £20 across to CC1 to round down to £1900. Have also increased the standing order to CC1 to £100 from next month so total minimum payments across the 3 debts will be £210 instead of £170.
