Michelin CrossClimate SUV
Hi when booking the fitting of Michelin CrossClimate SUV
Tyre Size 235/60V18 on kwk fits web site
A box comes up saying they only fit CrossClimate's in pairs on the same axle.
What is the reason for this please and what would happen if we got a punture and put a different type of tyre on the axle?
No other web site states this.
Also on Michelin's web site for the LATITUDE TOUR HP tyre it states it is an all weather tyre but on ATS 's site it says it is a summer tyre who is right or doesnt it make a difference?
Thanks

I don't see anywhere that Michelin themselves say that the Latitude is an all weather tyre, just in some of the comments.0

Cross climate is a hybrid between a summer and an all weather type tyre, mixing that with a summer tyre isn't a good idea.
In fact I'd have all four axles done, get a puncture you need like for like as Cross climate are a unique tyre.
If your SUV is 4WD, AWD the handbook may make further recommendations.
Having had a car with a tyre size only two companies manufactured (so getting one after a puncture was a potential problem) I'd personally go for a generic all weather tyre over Cross Climate as there is more choice in an emergency.0 -
I think you mean "all season", rather than "all weather". Both Latitude HP and CrossClimate SUV are all-seasons, however the Latitude Tour HP is not three-peak-mountain-snowflake winter rated. Look at the seasonality and rating icons on these:
https://www.michelin.co.uk/auto/browse-tyres/by-dimension/235/60/18
https://www.michelin.co.uk/auto/tyres/latitude-tour-hp
https://www.michelin.co.uk/auto/tyres/crossclimate-suv
You should always ensure tyres are matched as far as possible, but certainly as far as seasonality. As others have said, if it's 4wd, you'll want to ensure all four are. Depending on the technology of the 4wd system, that may be absolutely essential, rather than merely advisable.
("4wd" and "AWD" only mean different things if there are more than four wheels on your vehicle)0 -

Here's the reason why. Its about winter tyres but the exact same thing would happen with your tyres on front or rear and normal summer on the other.

Thank you everyone.
Yes its all season tyres sorry.
Here is Michelin's reply
Thank you for contacting Michelin customer care.
Regarding your query, we always recommend mounting tyres in sets of four, to ensure maximum safety and performance. If this is not an option however, then you can mount two different tyres, as long as each axle has the same tyres.
We do however always recommend mounting the new tyres on the rear axle for maximum safety (regardles if it is a front/rear wheel drive).
Tyres performance changes among the tyre pattern. In the case if one axle has two different tyre patterns we can’t sure that this combo is safe. MICHELIN CrossClimate is special tyre being summer tyre including winter certification so we don’t ever recommend to mount it with another tyre model.
Please note: for certain vehicles it is mandatory to mount tyres in sets of four, according to the manufacturer.!!
I hope this was helpful and please do not hesitate to contact us again for any further queries -we are happy to help.
Have a great weekend!

And I've always tried to keep all four tyres at about the same tread depth. That means swapping them around from time to time.
Last time I was in the dealer someone was having expensive repairs to the transfer box - because they'd been running mismatched tyres.0 -
I've always had matched tyres fitted to my 4x4s.

Four matchng tyres it is then either the CrossClimate's or the Latitude tour HP's but not sure which yet.
Just worried if we get a punture in a Cross climate and dont get it fixed for say 50 miles what damage would there be like in the old days of Radial and Cross ply
Thanks everyone for all your help :TSpending my time reading how to fix PC's,instead of looking at Facebook.0 -
Do you have a spare tyre, and is it a space saver or full size? If it's a spacesaver, drive as directed and it's unlikely that any problems will occur, if it's full size then fit a Cross Climate on that too.0

BMW X series? That's because they can't design a 4x4. Pretty much every other marque manages to cope with tyres having different tread depths and tread types just fine but the BMW X series transfer box craps out if there's more than a mil or two discrepancy with tread depth between the front and rear. This is a system account and does not represent a real person.
