Your insurance policy documents will set out exactly where the line is here, if you are not sure then check them.

My point was where to you / we draw the line in terms of what is acceptable for an insurance company to recoup costs for?

This is being inflicted by Admiral because they know drink driving is a contentious issue and there will be an element of public support for them doing it, when in reality they've discovered a way of recovering thousands or tens of thousands if someone has an accident, to the point of being punitive.

We have a legal system to punish people, it should not be up to the insurance companies to inflict further punishment in the form of punitive recovery (and it appears boardering on extortionate) of costs.

Are you advocating that insurers reclaim their costs from the insured in any instance where someone has broken the law?

eg. driving too fast for the conditions, speeding, driving to close, being distracted, being tired, ...

Because if we're talking morally ... they're all wrong. And all can lead to devastating outcomes.

    1+

Totally my point and better and more directly articulated than i did.

Esure have the same clause, and as far as I am aware, are not part of the Admiral group.
I want to go back to The Olden Days, when every single thing that I can think of was better.....

First of all I AM NOT HERE FOR SYMPATHY .. I cannot stress that enough. I created this thread to post and see if anyone else has found themselves in a similar situation and what the outcome was.

    :D

I understand your frustration, but this rant doesn't make you win the argument. Quite the opposite some might say...

I'm not looking to win an argument mate the same as I am not looking for sympathy.

    +1

    Wholly with you on this.

As i - and others - have said, its going to be a waiting game now and if the letter does drop through the door, then seek legal advice with a view to finally making them a small monthly payment.

A quick check shows Tesco insurance, Coop insurance, Direct Line all exclude cover if found to be driving while over the limit and can reclaim costs from you.

There's no point telling the OP not to drink and drive.

    What's done is done.

Now he has to pick his life up again.

Sorry to say but i think Admiral are out of order on this one as it opens it up to fraud all day long, They are quick enough to take the money in premiums what i dont get with Admiral and other insurance companies when a car was involved in a accident a assessor would come and look at the car etc any sign of dodgy tyres and such and sometimes your claim would be rejected Ive seen a M series BMW Coupe the old Z3 shape but a M series written off been over numerous times on its roof in a field and they wouldnt cover it due to the tyres on the wires etc. Now they dont care ive seen cars repaired with some well dodgy tyres etc Ive seen some real nasty ones where the tyres have certainly contributed to the crash and resulting damage

Find me a single insurer that doesn't have an exclusion based on roadworthiness...

It's probably best if I don't give my opinion of the kind of person who has an expensive, very high performance car... with tyres so badly worn they aren't merely illegal, but are actually down to the cords.
