Get your reg right

I'm not sure if this has been posted before, so my apologies if it has.

There are some interesting comments about how parking scammers should treat minor errors when typing in reg numbers, and how the scammers should also ensure their equipment should be set to avoid them.

I think it's worth including extracts from it where a motorist has made a minor typo, especially as it appears to be the IPC's idea.

    Typos are almost inevitable.

I remember finding one in a treaty about to be signed in No 10, despite it having been checked by at least 20 people.

In the lead up to the new code of practice, this was mentioned many times by MP's.

Rishi Sunak MP showed his face at the end so one would imagine he missed the important discussion

What about older folk, mums with screaming kids, those with Dyslexia, bright sunshine etc etc .... a problem for any of us

He mentioned hi-tech which is a joke ..... if I went to an ATM and entered the wrong pin number, I would not get any money, do it 3 times and the ATM gobbles my card.

That's real technology and not the pay machines set up to scam people. Pay machine technology is a decade outdated.

Bottom line ... there are only really 2 reasons for needing the vehicle reg when paying for parking:

    1. To reduce the risk of people passing over paid-for parking tokens. (i.e. the reg is on the token so a warden could easily tell if it had been passed);

    2. To validate paid-for parking time versus length of time the vehicle has actually been present on the site.

We all know that option 2 is why the PPCs do it. We all also know that, if the reg has been captured on entry and exit (else how would they know the on-site duration?) then they could easily integrate the ANPR records into the payment machine such that it would be impossible to enter an incorrect reg.

But there's no profit in that ......

    "please enter your VRN"

is that the one displayed on the vehicle , or the number written in the V5

the DVLA do not use the "0" (zero) charector on the plate on your car , they chose mot to include zero , as it would confuse people

it causes the public no confusion , but creates a money grabbing service for the PPCs

Not easy to 'get your reg right' when you're 87 and have never used a keypad, which is how my dad ended up with one at the local hospital. He knows his reg alright, he just cant find the letters & numbers on the 'keyboard thingy' as he calls it.

Not so sure I agree with some of the wording on the 'Motorist' page either:

"Once a motorist has parked their car, they are deemed to have accepted the terms and conditions stated on any parking signage. This means that the motorist has entered into a binding contract with the parking operator."

But only if they are fair and reasonable. Many judges will rule that "leaving site" is not and an MP recently queried whether it breached the Human Rights Act or not in the HoC..

Oooer, haven't seen that pile of crap before.

IMHO, it looks to those of us familiar with the depths plumbed by this Trade Body, like it's designed to give the IPC an undeserved veil of legitimacy by looking like the IPC are ''playing nicely and trying to educate people'' and it's fooled Rishi Sunak MP.

Did it not occur to him that NO-ONE is going to stumble across that pathetic website and 'campaign' and it does absolutely nothing useful to stop the likes of HX Parking and Excel (both notoriously horrible IPC member scum) from using faulty Parkeon (or similar old) machines that show digits like 'QQ' instead of the VRN the person has typed in.
All parking operators should never employ predatory tactics to entice or lure a motorist into incurring a parking ticket. This includes technology that is not user-friendly.

Why on earth would they ever need to issue this warning to parking operators? Surely none of them (professionals in their field) would, for one moment, contemplate stooping this low to facilitate 'take' from innocent motorists!

    The very thought is abhorrent.
