    She's had 8 years to pay you back if she thought it was a loan, From the sound of it, the is a good chance she will still need the deposit for the next rental, with only 3 months to save up.

    Thanks for the unhelpful response.

    At the time I was helping out a family member after a death in the family and legal concerns were the least of my worries.

    If you have nothing helpful to contribute please keep your opinions to yourself.


    It's a forum. You can't tell people not to say what you don't want to hear. Only spoke the truth - it did not sound like an 'agreement'. Not even a verbal one. Unfortunately, as sad as it all might be, legal concerns are just as important in times of grief as at other times. 'Grief' is no excuse in law. Would agree with those saying write it off.
