  • hi,

i have done camp america twice and its the best thing! like everyone says it not a money making scheme but looks amazing on your CV especially for all those graduate interviews.

the first time i went i made the camp america salary and about a $1000 in tips from parents (to say thanks for looking after their "angels"), and a couple of handbags :j . the second time, i got paid more as i was a returning counscellor but again made about a $1000 in tips, both times travelled for a month afterwards and came home with nothing (but cheesy as it sounds good memories!)

go for it, wish i was still a student to go again!!
  • Wow, how did you get so many tips? I didn't make any, but I didn't expect to.

I have seen that rule about anti depressants before, it's a bit of a strange one. I have suffered from depression in the past but have never taken anti depressants, luckily. That was one of the best summers of my life and I made some good friends and great memories.
  • i think i was just really lucky but was getting about a 100 dollars per kid, but the brattier the kid and the more difficult they were the less you get

my brother went to a differetn camp this year and the tips got taken of them guess i was just lucky (twice!)
  • Huh. I went a couple of years ago and the camp actually told the parents not to give us cash! I only ended up with about $50 although did get a couple of bath and body works sets, picture frames, jewellry etc.

Would defo go again if I ever get the opportunity/spare couple of months!

If you are really wanting to do it then I wouldn't go with Camp America if your aim is to save money. Go with either CCUSA or BUNAC who offer exactly the same services at half the price and give you more money at the end of it. Really, making money is not what it is about since you won't be making any! It's all about the experience.

If you're wanting to do this kind of summer program, Camp America are definitely not the people to go with.

I have been several times, in fact, this year will be my seventh summer working on a summer camp in the US.
Make sure you shop around and check the prices. Find out what is and isn't included. The companies often add surcharges for CRB checks, flight surcharges (airports other than London) etc. Make sure you check them all out.
    Companies include:

    https://www.ccusa.co.uk

If anyone has any questions at all about working on summer camps, please feel free to PM me!
