Bensons for Beds Issue

We bought a bed 4 years ago from Bensons. Matress and Divan base. The settlement where my husband and I sleep is really bad and decided to contact Bensons under the 5 year warrantee.
Since we have been investigating the issue I have now found that one on the wooden bars in divan has broken, it is on my side where the settlement is at its worst. Where it has broken it is in the exact place there is a knot in the wood.
Bensons are insisting we pay £40 to get an engineer out which they will refund if it turns out to be a manufacturing fault.
Anyone had any experience/has knowledge of beds etc who could advise. Are they going to just fob me off??

Its a risk of £40.
You pay and the vendor may fix a fault or give you a partial refund based upon four years usage ( ie not much ). Or the report is not a fault covered under warranty no claim allowed .
Or you dont pay £40 and fix slat yourself or buy a new bed.0 -
As above. At best you'll get your bed fixed and the £40 back. At worst, you've spent £40 and they determine it's not an inherent fault. In between, they decide it's an inherent fault and elect to refund you, deducting something for four years' use but paying your £40 back.0

My dad needed a new divan last year and went for Silentnight brand that came with a 5 year warranty.
When he got the divan delivered he was going through the do's and don'ts of carring for the mattress and base and then he looked at the warranty T&C's he noticed the part about the 5 year warranty and it had a sliding scale of what Silentnight would pay towards a replacent if the product fails within 5 years.
1st year was free, 2nd year was about 25% and final year i think was 80%. The % is what is deducted from the cost of a replacement at RRP so nothing like what you would get in a shop and you have buy direct from them and pay delivery costs also.
You had better check Bensons T&C's to see if this applies but you maybe lucky and they will give you a brand new bed free.0
