Low spec/big screen laptop for partially sighted
Comments
-
I am partially sighted and use a 17" laptop with some magnifying software called Zoomtext Magnifier - this comes in two versions with speech or without speech (Magnifier - standalone screen magnifier and Magnifier/ScreenReader - an integrated magnifier and screenreader). This software program can be used to access all applications including word processing, email and the internet. You can change the mouse pointer too and the text will magnify quite a lot. Although looking at the instruction manual, it would appear that Magnifier has a speech button but I am still getting used to using the system. Zoom text can be switched on and off at will without any detrimental effect to the computer. I got mine via Access to Work and kept it when I was made redundant (it is licensed to me and no-one else).
To run Zoomtext 8.1 you must have a system that includes the following:
Celeron, Pentium II or higher, AMD K6 or higher
One of the following operating systems:
Windows XP
Windows ME (millennium edition)
Windows 2000
Windows NT 4.0 (SP6)
Windows 98
Minimum 128MB RAM (256 MB recommended)
25 MB free hard disk space
Sound card (for Magnifier/ScreenReader version only)
I got the technical bumpf from my user guide (all their instructions come with large text) but to be honest I am not technically minded.0 -
Thanks for that , Zoom text is a lot cheaper. Im off to investigate that now.0
