HP laptop memory upgrade question
Comments
-
laptop only used for surfing and very basic word processing etc.
i cloned my previous disk but that was not running anything i wanted rid of and wanted to retain all my software and settings. i'm pleased with the result but just wondering now if there is anythig to gain from upgrading theDDR memory?
Already told you....not much.
It perhaps would have made a difference if you had run a clean install and rid yourself of the HP bloatware.
Almost £30 for a 8GB module. https://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/Memory-Ram-Laptop-DDR3L-PC3L-12800S-12800-1600-MHz-204-SODIMM-Low-V-Non-ECC-Lot/322702150990
£22 from CEX0 -
Unless you are doing things like editing whopping great photos or editing videos or gaming (not that cheaper laptops are good at that) an upgrade from 8Gb to 16Gb isn't going to be noticeable.
You don't say what version of Windows is on the machine but Windows 7 Home Premium can only use 16Gb. You can put in as much as you like above that point but it can't use it. For completeness 7 Pro and higher is 192Gb.0 -

My first port of call would be to use the task manager, or performance monitoring tools, to see how the memory is being used. If there's plenty free, you don't need more memory.
Even if memory usage does peak slightly above what's available, if you have the pagefile on the SSD, that should be pretty quick anyway.0
