This is an “over the garden fence” type thread where we chat about everything Old Style and maybe a little bit more. It’s a great, inspiring and motivating thread we start each day to discuss what Old Style things we’re going to do today or what we’ve achieved already. Everyone’s welcome, please do come in, put your feet up (although check the fence hasn’t just been painted first!) and join us for an Old Style natter. The more the merrier!
As this is the Old Style Board, it would be appreciated if posts could include some Old Style content. Please be aware that many people may have small screens, or SLOW internet connections, so please don’t post large pictures, or clip art – links are preferred. When you make a post, if you feel like giving it a title, that will help others that don’t have the time to read everything skim through the thread quickly but if not it's not a problem. Please do not start a new daily thread before you go to bed at night because this often leaves things confusing with two daily threads live at the same time. The idea is that a member would start each new daily thread after they get up in the morning.
Yuk to the time and yuk to the weather
Had an epic 2 hour sleep last night waking at 1am worried sick about not prepping enough for todays course so I decided to get up and have an hours work and here we are at 5 am. Off to Nottingham today so off soon to fight the trains.
On a real positive When I walk through the door tonight thats it for long weekend which I imagine will be mostly used for sleep and cleaning which pleases me immensely
Really need to sort my house out and my awful eating atm so going to do a bit of project management tomorrow which coincidently is todays course....physician heal thyself springs to mind.
Hope everyone has a good day and whatever your going through today is a better day :A

Good morning all and thank you for starting the thread Nelski.
Yesterday's constant rain has stopped - our local forecast is for a muggy day.
We have the date for my mum's funeral, not for another fortnight.
I've continued with a bit of sorting in the house each day and a bit of gardening, it is so nice to wake up to birdsong and the wind in the trees, though it is quite still today.
I'm starting a piece of work this afternoon. Quite looking forward to it.
Hope everyone has as good a day as possibleI was jumping to conclusions and one of them jumped back0 -
Morning everyone
Nelski - thanks for starting us off x
Hugs to those that want/need one, those who are poorly and those looking after a poorly person x
Happy birthday to those with a birthday x
DH and DS1 now getting ready for work, I'm showered, dressed and enjoying first cuppa and porridge whilst on here.
Bright sunny start but damp with laying water after the rain yesterday evening, we got steady heavy rain for quite a while, forecast is better from today. I have a wash load in the WM as we speak so that will go out on the line once it's done.
Dinner last night was egg, bacon, sausage, hash browns and beans. Tonight I'm not sure but I have a gammon joint which I think we should eat - I'm thinking I may roast the gammon in the oven and do a potato layer bake - they can both cook at the same time then just do some peas to go with it.
Work yesterday was either dead or busy - we had a few difficult cases but got there in the end. I'm working Saturday also this week.
So on to today -
I have the normal "to do" list - I have a nail appointment this morning and another appointment at lunchtime - I then also need to get everything else done - so a busy day. I may try to get some household stuff done before I go out for the first appointment, but depending on how that goes it depends how long I have from that one finishing and the next one and it's not likely to be enough time to come home and go back so will stay around town until appointment time.
I'm hoping to get as much done today as possible so I get to chill for some of the time tomorrow - we have some busy weeks coming up and we are now going into the holiday time at work which is great but due to the reduction in staffing we only just manage with the staff we have, so once there's holidays/sickness it's very tight.
Keep safe and well x

Morning folks and thanks NELSKI. Another one here for the insomniac brigade. For a short while I thought I was improving but have slipped back into dwelling on better times, worrying about things I can't change and getting emotional about something and nothing. Everything seems worse in the wee small hours when the world is sleeping.
The DGDs had a late night last being the school holidays so I am hoping they have a sleep in this morning. Youngest is tripping off with one of her ballet chums this morning. The mum is taking them to the ice cream parlour Bolton Abbey way where there are a few farm animals to pet and a play area etc. Middle one has the enjoyment of going shopping with DS and me!! Aldi day today, then DS is staying with us for lunch before he goes to work. I got a tub of Bolognese out to defrost last night so its Spag Bol for them and maybe some garlic bread if I can unearth some. Like NELS I am trying to get into a healthy eating regime so something and salad for me.
This morning we have mizzly drizzly rain which is forecast to stay with us for the rest of the day. Miserable weather doesn't improve the mood. Come back the sunshine.
Have a good day folks if you can and ((HUGS)) as always for those who need/want them. Thinking of all with worries and woes. Take care all xx"If you dream alone it will remain just a dream. But if we all dream together it will become reality"0 -
Morning All
Very wet this morning, the washing can stay indoors. After yesterday's lovely start it turned into a wet day. Went to Yoga after work and really enjoyed it.
I was going swimming this morning but slept in! Oh well, there's always tomorrow.
Hope everyone is well, take care. XX0 -
Morning folks.
Yesterday I caught up with all my outstanding work and emailed off paperwork. My official leaving date is 14 June so I made contact with the Teacher's pension office to sort things out there. Once I have finished I'll be able to clear stuff off my laptop onto a spare portable hard drive and leave it all behind.
My health walk was lovely though I couldn't go as far as the leader planned. Turns out that the stated 'max of one hour' was an hour each way! My sore knee / hip and lack of fitness meant I wasn't going to do that. However I really enjoyed finding a nice route along the canal and was delighted to find a community cafe at the start of the route. I had a bowl of the best tomato and roasted red pepper soup I've ever had.
DM spent most of the day on the sofa and doing walks up and down the hall. She's trying hard to eat more. I'm trying hard to get out more and start doing more for myself.
There's a lot of rain today, I'm still going out for a bit of a walk. I'll not melt in the rain!
My thoughts are with those who are struggling and wish everyone a happy Thursday.0 -
Morning all
Dull and overcast here today, we had a lot of rain yesterday afternoon, this half term has been a bit of a wash out weather wise.
Off to work today with my new co-worker I had her making cakes yesterday which surprisingly went well, bless her it turns out that her mum was an alcoholic and showed no interest in her at all, she spend most of her time with her nan.
Onto today and dinner tonight will be some thai chicken with rice and peas so nice and easy.
Must put a wash on tonight it can go in the conservatory on the airer.
Have good days all xx0 -
Morning all
Thanks for the thread Nelski and hugs to all those in need.
Beano's had his morning constitutional and is now asleep in the sun. We need to move today as we are on a 48 hour mooring, we've overstayed by a day with CRT permission as I wasn't feeling well yesterday.
Have a good day everyone.
Hugs HesterChin up, Titus out.0 -
Morning everyone,
I've been a bit awol lately. Last week, Friday and Saturday, I was in Berlin entertaining three German clients. Whilst I've been speaking with them on the phone and email for months and months, this was the first time I met with them and the plan was to enjoy a nice meal on Friday then go to watch some sport on the Saturday. The guys were nice and friendly, the events went well and business was discussed. By the time it was my flight home on Saturday night, I was 90% sure that our big business deal wasn't going to happen - which is (kind of) fine. I work in sales I can handle rejection. But as soon as I touched down in Manchester I was consumed with this all compassing anxious worry, not only about this particular sale but others, then work in general, then my life decisions! "What was I thinking leaving all my friends and family and moving 300 miles away!"
For 3 days I was in a really weird place. I couldn't focus on anything without thinking or worrying about work/life. I went to the gym, watched a documentary, read my book, played the Xbox, listened to podcasts and listened to music to try and distract myself and through it all, I couldn't shake this feeling. I ended up going into work on Sunday, Monday (a bank holiday) and then 5am on Tuesday in the hope that I would find relief in being on top of my work. It's helped.
Sorry for the long post but in my 28 years on this planet, I've never really felt any mental stress like that. It's completely new and alien to me. I took a lot of pride in feeling confident about my mental well being and for it to have flipped so severely and quickly really took me by surprise.
I need to get back into a routine, so here I am. I'll visit the gym tonight and I'll speak to my pals on the xbox afterwards to hopefully take my mind off things.
Hope everyone has a lovely day0 -
Speky, I'm sorry you are going through this, it's so common these days because work seems so much more pressured and with the internet etc it's a lot harder to switch off from it. I know you do a lot of exercise and that helped my son a lot when he was going through similar feelings. Hugs to you.
Laura had a bit of a scare yesterday, she was at the hospital for something else and they took her straight to maternity. Anyway the baby is fine (she didn't think it was baby related anyway) and she had a scan. Apparently the operative said it was very long, long legs and big feet - hardly surprising since Laura is 5'11, Brian is 6'4 and my Chris is 6'6. We now know the sex but I've been sworn to secrecy for the time being.
I saw Crystal yesterday for the first time in a few weeks, now Steve and Chris play golf together I don't see either of them as much as I'd like. Crystal is more like a daughter than a daughter-in-law to me. We had lunch together and a lovely chat.
I'm going to se Laura this afternoon, she wants to go shopping for clothes that fit so hopefully she'll feel well enough for that.0 -
Well, Freecycle came up trumps and got rid of some pallets so the garden is looking less allotment-y..Was bad yesterday, bought two cordylines and a phoenix canariensis [ ramping up to mediterranean garden makeover - won't be till next year but getting prepped in advance] because they were cheap, they look healthy, and I can baby them over the next year to get bigger and better. They can sit in the corner with the cypresses and fatsia for a bit...
Tomorrow is d-day for OH, he will be redundant, so who knows what it' going to be like in the house, will be strange to have him here all the time, I will have to let go of the idea that this is my private fiefdom...We will be looking at cut backs, bt luckily, neither of us have any debts apart from the mortgage, so de-cluttering what we do have and can sell will be something to do...And we won't be struggling as long as we don't go crazy for a good few months at least. And as I fully stocked the ood cupboards, we only need fresh stuff and milk, so again, we're good there for quite a few months.
csarina, loved your story yesterdayRR, bet you feel a [deservedly] warm glow of pride, in her and yourself ...Speky, it's like delayed buyers remorse..you shot ahead at a hundred miles an hour and have done really well in your job. Is this the first time you've pitched for something big and been rejected? If it is, might have something to do with it...like I said before, take it easy, your job is not your life. Nelski, kind of the same advice, relying on yourself all the time to prepare things, tender things, quote things, make presentations etc, you are only relying on you. You don't have to second guess yourself, you're good at what you do otherwise you'd have been out of a job a long time ago. Would it help to make a list before you go to bed, and tick things off so you know what you hae and haven't done and can mentally leave what you hve done behind? TA, enjoy the bogbake
Gers, sounds like the perfect balance, excercise and food
AOD, have a great day. SO, hugs to you again. Holly, is it sunny yet?
Wotcha Missings...
Take care of yourselves Thursday!Non me fac calcitrare tuum culi0
