I decided to change suppliers from Shell Energy to Bulb over ten days ago. All seemed to be going well when I received an email from BULB saying that my supplier had refused the switch. I contacted Shell and eventually they got back to me saying there was no reason they would object to my changing suppliers!!
Back to Bulb...... "all is great, going swimmingly" please give us your reading at the end of the month.
Today I attempted to enter my readings only to find it was impossible to get into my account! Yet AGAIN I contacted BULB, eventually they got back to me saying they were "as upset as I was, but that SHELL ENERGY STILL objected to my changing suppliers! by now I have lost the will to live! Back to Shell yet again, they sent me a long detailed explanation saying they had NOT stopped the move.
What on earth can I do? BOTH companies blaming the other repeatedly. Meanwhile my contract with Shell is comincg to and end, and I am going to be out of pocket.
PLEASE can anyone advise me what I can do or where to complain?
I apologise for the length of this!!

You're not going to be "out of pocket", all it means is you pay a bit more for your energy in the meantime. Normally if you can get your notification in that you're off and prior to a tariff expiry your rates should be held until you actually move.

I presume you don't owe Shell a large amount of money?
Are your installations standard, ie you're not on an IGT for Gas and you have standard or Eco7 Electricity, not something obscure like Eco10?

If not, easiest solution is to move elsewhere and then if you still want to go to Bulb, move to them from there.

Thank you for your reply. No, I do not owe Shell a penny, I pay by variable monthly direct debit, and both my gas and electric are standard. There is absolutely no reason at all for this mess. Unfortunately there seems to be no way I can find out WHO is at fault,

  • Send Bulb a bill from shell with your MPAN & MPRN on. They may have the wrong details or they could send you a screenshot of the objection as shown on Ecoes the elec national database

I'd send a written complaint to Shell, that then gives them a timetable to have to respond and hopefully fix the issue, then take it to the ombudsman if they don't.
