Eco friendly way of getting rid of cat litter?

My cats have wood cat litter, which is biodegradable. Problem is I don't like just chucking it straight into the black bin so I use a bag, which to me defeats the whole point of it being biodegradable :/ I try and get as much litter in the bag as I can so It's not just one bag per tray :/
I have heard you can compost it but I don't know anyone with a compost heap! Do you think that biodegradable bags might be an idea?

You could use one of those biodegradable food waste bags. Do you have a brown garden waste bin? Or what about paper waste bags?

Is a brown bin food and garden recycling? Ours is green. We have strict rules about not putting cat litter in with food/garden waste because of the contamination risk.

Have you got room for a compost bin or do you live in a flat?

I do have room for one but my garden is very small and with no grass or anything :/ not sure what I would do with the compost after! I don't have room to grow anything. I wonder if any keen gardeners would take it

If it's just going in your rubbish bin, then it makes no difference whatsoever. Biodegradable material in landfill is harmful - it breaks down to create methane which is a far more potent greenhouse gas than carbon dioxide. You'd be better off using a non-biodegradable material which will cause less harm (although the poo will still be harmful).

If your rubbish goes for incineration, then the wood will be better and you could use whichever bag you prefer.

You can't put pet litter from meat eating animals in a garden waste bin.

You can compost it at home, and you can buy special pet composting toilets so that it is contained. That's probably the only environmentally friendly way of dealing with the waste.

In my area cat litter has to go into the brown gardening food waste bin only.
