Hi This is my first post so apologies if I get anything wrong. I recently started a dual fuel switch from EON to British Gas. However British Gas requested that I make a security deposit of £215 before they would go ahead with the switch. This despite my credit rating being 999 on Credit Club and never being late or missing payments over the last 40 yrs with all Utilities I have deal with (35 years with BG!). I have switched suppliers yearly over the last 5 yrs and no other supplier has requested deposits before taking over the supply.
I raised a complaint with BG but to no avail. However by the time this had been decided the 14 day cooling off period had passed and I now cannot 'unlock' my MSE Cheap Energy Club account and compare and switch to another supplier for 12 weeks. BG has said there is nothing to do their end to u lock it. I seem to be in 'limbo' for at least 12 weeks paying the higher rates that I have been transferred to on EON. Are there any suggestions as to how to resolve this?

See if you can get any energy on tick from the Credit Club.
Or pay the creditor the security deposit they insist on to give you tick.
Or get a prepayment meter
With regards to issues about the MSE Cheap Energy Club, refer to the FAQ page thereon.0 -
I don't see why you haven't just paid paid the security deposit and switched to British Gas if they are the cheapest, it's only £215!.0

Forget the credit score, I'll look more closely at my credit report with all three agencies to check there is nothing in there causing BG to ask for this security. It is highly likely something in there has spooked them.0
