Sold Car - Change of Keeper
Options
Guys,
when you send a logbook off for a car you've sold, what could cause the DVLA to "lose" the car on their system?
In context, MIL sold her old car on a Saturday, posted V5 off with new keeper's details on it, both signed & dated before sending it. A week and 3 days later, she had cause to phone DVLA for info about the car & the change of ownership, but they tell her the car doesn't exist!! Could this just be a side-effect of their computer system updating the change of keeper?
Never heard of this happening before...

Has she given the correct details?0

If she has a photocopy of the V5 she could always inform the DVLA online.Mortgage started 2020, aiming to clear 31/12/2029.0

Isn't it possible that the new owner has changed the reg. number?
I'd have expected the 'old' number to be cross-referred, but the DVLA sometimes work in mysterious ways.0 -
I think Car54 has it. If you look on the Gov.UK vehicle enquiry website, and the car isn't there at all, it's usually because somebody has changed the plate. Obviously, if an official source queries it, they may get more detail - but an ex-keeper is just a random member of the public.
That's easily possible inside ten days - V5Cs often come through within a few days now, and plate changes can be done online instantly.
What info was she calling DVLA for? Buyer's name/address? They wouldn't tell her anyway.0
