Halfords complaint

My windscreen wipers broke last week, I found out that it was a problem with the mechanism/linkage rather than the motor. I took it to Halfords on Saturday as that was the only option at the weekend and they found the required part on their system and quoted £183 to replace the wiper mechanism including labour and VAT.

I pay for the repair and they have it done in a round 3 hours. Sunday night I was driving down the M1 in the rain and my wipers were on, they proceeded to break again while i was driving leaving me unable to use them. Luckily it had stopped raining so wasn't too much of an issue at the time.

I took it back Monday night and they said they would look at it today and I checked that it would be under warranty and not cost to which they said yes. I get a call this morning saying I can go collect my car, I asked what was wrong and how they fixed it this time to be told "We replaced the whole mechanism", luckily I didn't have to pay any extra today. I was under the impression that they had done this on Saturday which justified the £183 charge but they clearly hadn't.
What did I pay £183 on Saturday? The receipt says: "Renew the windscreen wiper mechanism, excessively worn". I feel like they have misled me and not done what they said they would on Saturday which then caused the wipers to break while I was driving.

Is there anything I can do about this and where can I leave an official complaint?

Any advice or thoughts are appreciated.

Perhaps the mechanism they replaced has itself broken?

What can you do about it? Complain and see what they say. What are you entitled to? Nothing, if your wipers are now working properly.

Perhaps that's what happened, thanks for your comment.

I'll complain either way as it's not great for a repair to break within the day.

    Stuff happens.

The repair failed, they fixed it fairly promptly at no cost to you. I'm not a fan of Halfords but I don't see what your complaint is in this case.
