Material cost for a new bathroom

Options
We have just completed converting a normal room into a bathroom (no bath-just shower). My agreement with the builder was to pay him for labour and material excluding the tiles and the bathroom suite.
The work is now complete and the builder has dropped an invoice for £1500 for material alone (different pipes, adhesive, grout, silicone..etc). I have not got clue about these things but it seems to be excessive to me. His argument is that this was not a bathroom originally and he had to put every thing from scratch. I noted that he even charged me for new drill bits for his equipment.

What do you think? Is it reasonable to spend £1500 on material alone?

Why shouldn't he charge you for drill bits?

Because it is part of his capital. If he is going to charge me for that then he should leave them for me at the end of the job and he did not.

They're a consumable item. Call it drill bit rental if it makes you feel better.

I'd be charging you for them too.

so if you go on a taxi you will be expected to pay for his tyre wear and tear for your journey? or if you go to the barber you will pay for sharpening the scissors?

You are paying for those things. They're included in the price you pay. I assumed that was obvious.

Drill bits are materials, not labour, so you are talking nonsense.

1- Can you please watch your language and be respectful

2- Any tool you use to be able to do your job and as a result you will be taking it with you for the next job should not be paid for by customer.

Have you asked for a copy of the receipts for the materials?
