    Morning all

Looks like its going to be another lovely day here, off to work for me and my colleague is off this week, I have a 17 year old girl with me who is lovely and chatty but has no idea what she is doing, I asked her to get a potato peeler and she diddnt know what one was, once we had found it she asked my how you peel a potato , then when I asked her to peel the hard boiled eggs she tried to do it with a potato peeler it was like having another client to teach but she was lovely and did pick things up quickly, she has just never been shown how to do any.

    Have good days all xx

RR your story reminded me of a friend, we called her Mrs Bucket, she reminded me a bit of Hyacinth.

She and her husband lived in a 4 bedroomed house, no children. He worked in a bank. They had a very comfortable life style, holidays cars etc.

She came round for coffee one morning and was not very happy, I asked her what was the matter and she burst into tears......Husband was due to retire and his pension forecast decreed that something was going to have to give.

She had a daily cleaner and a gardener. She did say that they had been thinking of downsizing and there were a couple of houses that they were interested in.

I suggested she drop the daily cleaner........deep breath and said she should do it herself. I made arrangements to go round the following week which I did. Started with the bathroom after we had turned back the bed and opened the window....... master bedroom cleaned, other three bedrooms, dusted and the hoover put round. Time for a coffee........what now.....whats for supper....
No idea. Have you any mince? yes, right shepherds pie......showed her how to slice the onions etc and left the pan cooking whilst we prepped the veg, I told her to peel the spuds. I could not believe it when she got a knife out of the drawer and started chopping chunks off the spuds. Have you got a potato peeler? No........I went home and fetched my spare.........spuds peeled, carrots peeled, the other veg prepped. Spuds boiled and mashed with a drop of milk and a knob of butter. Drained some of the gravy off into a pan and spread the mince into a dish, spud spread on top. Instructions left as to when to put the pie in the oven etc. How to thicken the excess gravy and I went home, to do my own housework and prep supper.

We had just finished supper when the phone went, it was Hyacinth, Oh that shepherds pie was delicious.......just like cookie used to make....what??? yes her parents had a cook housekeeper and a gardener. So she had never done any house work and very little cooking. I knew that they had often had takeaways and ready meals, I had no idea she could not cook, let alone bake.

Its a long story, I taught her to cook and look after the house, they did sell the house and also swapped their gas guzzler of a car for a Skoda like mine. She had a driving license but did not like driving the big Audi they had.......she took to driving the Skoda in a big way.

Unfortunately they have both passed away now, just occasionally something joggs my memory as RR's post did this morning.

Right.....3rd effort to start and finish a post!

OL.....how sad that it should be necessary to provide a safe place for babies .....I have notion ( maybe wrong) that a similar system operates in Japan. Your daughter and her kind are doing wonderful work.

Ruby......glad that you managed to teach that poor girl something, enjoyed reading Czarina's account of her friend.....lucky she had you around Czarina..

Holly, sorry to see you are suffering hopefully improved weather will help.

Hester.....a rest indeed seems in order.

    Enjoy your day everyone.
