We are getting a new shop locally, it's a no waste shop where you bring your own containers and buy loose goods, dried goods etc, sauces as well as washing up,liquid etc, I think.
It sounds great and I'll be going to see it and buy something but it very much depends on the prices if the community will support it or not.

If you can get to Romsey, there's a zero waste/refill place there, and the girls who run it are lovely.

I have heard of that one and I am desperate to try and get out there to see it but I just haven't had the chance yet. I may try a bit later this month (maybe after pay day).

I don't know if this point has already been made and I've missed it (sorry), but one significant increase in plastic packaging in the last few years is in pet food pouches and packs. We used to buy our wet pet food in tins which could be crushed and recycled, then in the foil trays which again could go into the recycling, cardboard boxes of the dry stuff, but most is in plastic now.

    Hi
Pet food pouches can be washed and recycled with Terracycle. If you google Terracycle you can find a local drop off point.

I've been excavating Kilner jars & researching them, as some need new bands, rubber seals etc.
I've a dozen hearty jars from between 1932-1948 - but no metal rings nor likelihood of finding them. How eco is a broad rubber band?

I also found that several of the recognizable but slightly different kilner jars actually work brilliantly with Leifheit rings & lids, and that if you order therm from Amazon.de rather than amazon.uk, it costs a load less.

Oh yes any anyone who loves Bonne maman jars but the lids are iffy? You can buy replacement lids - so long as they're 82mm. Wares of knutsford (no affiliation other than very happy customer) supply the same things at half the amazon price & in a wider range of colours...

    Morning all
Im currently sat at work watching everyone come in and out and im shocked at the amount of plastic around.we have just had chairs delivered and each of them is individually wrapped in plastic. Im told that they reuse each bag so hopefully that's true.
Coffee cups firstly it shocks me how many people buy coffee not just because of the cups but the cost:eek:
Im truly not sure what the answer is as my office block is fully of highly educated people..so maybe its the retailers that should act quickly and change as the majority of consumers are going to keep on buying what is already there.:(

I'm also shocked at the amount of plastic waste some of my work colleagues produce . Plastic coffee cups, bottles and sandwich wrappers. It's us older members of staff who bring our lunch from home each day and make coffee in the kitchen.

On the plus side we've just come back from a holiday in Devon. There was a tap clearly marked "drinking water" at the entrance to the beach. a pen for broken surf boards and another for unwanted beach equipment. I noticed that sandwiches etc from the beach shop were in paper bags too.

We went to a Craft Fair where people were selling hand made produce bags, unwrapped soap, notebooks made from scrap paper and kits for beeswax wraps

:T not sure if its been mentioned before but there is a great business based on the Isle of Wight called Wyatt & Jack the have an inflatable amnesty so all inflatables ,bouncy castles can be sent to them ( they reimburse postage ) when they are finished with and they make great bags from them thus preventing them ending up in landfill.
