Alternative to Yahoo Groups?

What are the alternatives to Yahoo Groups?
I am involved in a yahoo group and some of the members are interested in moving to an alternative - but I don't know what alternatives there are, does anyone have any ideas?
The reasons for changing are ethical (as in where google invest there money etc.) so I'm guessing I'm looking for a smaller organisation/business etc.
I really don't have a clue about this stuff so any advice/ideas would be appreciated.
Many thanks in advance.

Google groups seems better than yahoo, sometimes it can take hours for messages to be posted to the group on yahoo but google is normally within minutes.0

Just get on Facebook like almost everyone else on the planet
I never thought i'd see the day where not having an internet profile was considered more anti-social than actually living life in the real world. But it's finally happened :eek:Instigated terrorism the road to dictatorship.0 -
I used to be able to see and use all the groups in all the world (including some offensive ones I think). I did this by downloading FREE AGENT which is a fantastic system for seeing all the forums there has ever been. They started to charge for AGENT and I didn't get around to joining up again and paying for it. I have all the details necessary for using this system which is very popular because you can see at a glance your own post and how many replies there has been. I believe it is run by a computer group at a university in Germany. Let me know if you want the info or, you could just Google for Free Agent/Agent and see what somes up. It is important to use a fictitious email address to avoid spam. I used to use Bigfoot.0
