CH thermostat in hall

Our central heating thermostat is situated in the coldest part of our house, the hall. This means we can be far too hot in the lounge or bedrooms and we are constantly jumping up and down to alter the temperature. For instance the thermostat is set at 15C (we have a thermometer there to confirm the temp) and the current temp in our lounge is reading 23C. We only have radiators, no gas fires or anything. Would it be ok to have the thermostat moved to a more realistic site in the house and would this involve much work or expense? At the moment we seem to be paying for heat we don't need in most of the house.

Have you got thermostatic radiator valves (TRV's) on each radiator ? If not, get them fitted. You can then control the temp in each room individually.
The stat can be moved but may involve holes in walls and loads of mess or possibly a wireless stat could be fitted.0 -
Rather than moving the main thermostat why don't you install those radiator thermostats around the place - we did in our last house and they worked really well - it wasn't cheap but probably not much more than the cost of moving the main stat.0

if its a new one ie a combi bolier, ours is in the hall, all we did was go through each time and change the temp, weve set it to cut in at 15 instead of the 19 that had been set by the engineer.
Hope that helps xxx rip dad... we had our ups and downs but we’re always be family xx0 -
We have the oposite problem. Ours is in the kitchen (well dining part) so when I cook the rest of the house goes cold when I'm steamed up and boiling.
I'm still trying to work ot how to set it. I put it up so it didn't cut out, which worked, but after cooking was done the whole house got too hot. On that basis I suppose you need to turn your hall stat down to keep the lounge warm (confused)
In the end we are like you and have to keep adjusting it depending on how we 'feel'Doing voluntary work overseas for as long as it takes .......
My DD might make the odd post for me0 -

You could go for a wireless thermostat unit - something like this say, certainly a lot easier than having to run in new cabling.

It is not difficult to relocate a thermostat, the difficulty is being able to route a cable to the new location without it looking it being too noticeable.
The cable to the thermostat will be carrying mains power, so it is not something to attempt yourself, unless you are competent in dealing with electrical installations.
An alternative to running a cable to the new location, is you can buy radio controlled thermostats. The thermostat can go anywhere, and the control box that is wired to the boiler can be hidden away. They range from about £50 (not installed) upwards.0
