Hi folks,
Every time I set up Outlook on a new machine I import my folder rules and they never work even though they are pointing to the correct folder.
Hugely irritating to have to set them all up from scratch.
Any ideas how to kick it into the correct option? I am on Office 365 but the back-end configuration is exactly the same as back in 2007 etc.
Have tried rebuilding Outlook.srs and it won't seem to let me run all rules manually either.
Many thanks!

Normally if you import them they won't run initially, as opposed to the option of "run on this folder" or whatever becoming available when you first set them up.
So if you import them and then close/reopen Outlook and when you get a new mail they should work.0 -

Thanks Neil,
Unfortunately I have never found this to be the case. For instance, the notification I get for replies to this thread should go into my MSE folder but it just stays in the Inbox.
The rule is set up correctly and won't run manually either. If I set up a new rule exactly the same it works.

I found an archive post from a web forum in 2006 that seems to suggest that the rules you've imported are set up for the folder configuration on the original installation.
If you import from what is seen as "another computer" (or a new installation of Windows), the folders that were on the "other computer" (the old installation) don't exist on the "new" computer because its a different data store/location.
Presumably if you copy them from machine to machine they don't have the same username on the computer (ie C:\Users\Fred) each time and that may be why they're failing. Presumably import only works on the computer the rules started from - if the rules were valid they would run manually I would have thought.0 -

Ah right, I'm with you. I have imported the .pst files and organised them in the same order as on the original PC. When I edit the rules they point to the correct folders
I just Googled 'For other computer' and apparently you can uncheck 'on this computer only' to get it to work.
I will try that (but will have to be for every rule) and report back...
Thanks Neil.

OK, I edited the rule for this forum reply notification and it moved it to the correct folder :-)
Yippee! - thanks Neil, for prompting me to solve a decade old conundrum.
Cheers
