Video editing - sync 2 videos, side-by-side

I have two separate videos of an event on cheapo action cams. And I've never edited a video in my life. :o

Is there any software (Win7 or Linux) that I can use to create a single video that cuts between them, and can also show both videos side-by-side?

Can I synchronise the source videos based on their (independent) audio recordings?

Also... the files are in 720p MOV format. Can they be edited without any lossy transcoding?

Cheers in advance for any tips! :)

I’m using (currently) using FCPX and use multicam to do what you want but depending on the spec of your computer then Da Vinci Resolve has a free version which I suspect would also be suitable.... I’ll be moving to Resolve shortly.

Download links at the bottom of the page..... be aware that this is Hollywood grade software.

eshul, I've butchered a few short clips (about 8 more than you - does that make me a Pro
:)? ) using free vsdc. Fairly sure Resolve is much better for the same cash :)

The reason why I have not moved to Resolve is that I think it is a bigger, and more resource intensive bit of software (No I have not checked the specs - gut feeling), and that every question I have had so far, i have found answered on youtube, including yours https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Qj4DEj6bArw

One thing I have to say, everything that gets converted always looses something, hopefully someone will prove me wrong one day.

Vsdc appears not to do multicam.

Although Resolve can be very technical doing a basic multicam and sync is very straight forward.

Avs4u will do all you require.
    Free to download.
Copes with a big range of file types both on input and output.
    Great to use.
    See https://www.avs4you.com/avs-video-editor.aspx
or search "avs4u video" for youtube video and reviews.

As you can tell I like it!

Bit of a hard sell when it cost $39 or $59, compared to a top commercial one for free?

    Ah, that.
I have been caught out there by time!
It used to be that the individual components of the avs4u suite of progs were all free but the set could be bought fkr a one off lifetime upgrace fee (which I did).

Now it seems that the more used components have limitations (effectively output watermarks) till activated/purchased. That includes the video editor.

Nonetheless it is still a really great package.

But yes free it no longer is!:(

    Thanks everyone!
I'm installing Da Vinci Resolve as we speak. Hopefully it's not too daunting for my simple needs! :D

O dear, :( Having posted above with a recommendation AVS4U vid editor is giving me problems .
So going to give Da Vinci a go. :D

I know it is a very well respected and used professional package but I am trying the free version so may also report back on my opinion (providing MSE does not keep losing my posts as has happened recently!!)

I'll let you know when I have a chance to play with it. Compiling from source took about 45 minutes, and I haven't had a chance to have a proper look at it yet. :o
