Changing tariff with new electric heating

We are all-electric (no gas supply at all) and currently heat the house using old-style storage heaters. We are planning to change to new electric heaters, which also means changing from Economy 7 to a regular tariff, as the new-style heaters have thermostats and turn on and off throughout the day.
My questions are:
1. Will we need a new meter (I'm getting mixed messages about this)?
2. Any insights as to how we choose a supplier and tariff when we can't predict our electricity usage?

Don't do it. Unless these are panel heaters from Argos they will cost a fortune and your running costs will go through the roof

Why would you switch away from E7, when your heaters will still probably use a decent chunk of energy at night (when it's coldest as well)?


Some suppliers apparently cannot cope with non-E7 customers having E7 meters, but many do. Check with the supplier you're thinking of using.

Important matters first! have you bought your new heaters yet?


As indicated above, you must bear in mind that a £10 fan heater from Argos is 100% efficient and will produce EXACTLY the same amount of heat for the same cost as ANY other electrical heater. That includes heaters filled/coated with any substance known to man and costing £thousands.
