Pet Hair Vacuum Cleaner for Carpets

I have a 2 year old border collie who seems to constantly shed hairs despite brushing her daily (she'll put hairs anywhere but on the brush). Having a fully carpeted house means I end up doing a lot of hoovering. At the moment I've got a Dyson DC44 cordless vacuum and a Dyson DC20 vacuum cleaner. Unfortunately after years of use neither are working as well as they did and I'm looking to replace them. I love the DC44 as it's lightweight and easy to manouve. However the DC20 I'm now finding very heavy.
Can anyone recommend a replacement vacuum that will hoover Border Collie hairs off the carpets. Ideally I'd also like it to be able to hoover the car out.
I don't mind paying a bit more for a vacuum that's going to last like my Dysons have.
Thanks.

I have 2 Shelties and I've found many vacuum are effective at actually picking up the dog hair. The problem lies in a) being able to clear blockages, b) easy cleaning of brushes that end up with wads of hair entangled in them and c) easy emptying of bagless models that contain 90% hair!
I had a Henry, but found it started to smell offensively doggy and couldn't eradicate the pong. Two Dysons repeated clogged up with hair, but were quite easy to take apart and clear, unless it was just behind the brush head. I now use a Shark Liftaway which needs the brush cleaning regularly and is not nice to empty, but the cylinder opens at the top and bottom which helps. The advantage is that you can remove the cylinder from the base and use it on stairs and in the car."Cheap", "Fast", "Right" -- pick two.0 -
We have a Miele pet hoover. Thankfully we managed to get the last one on the shelf just after they reduced the power on them. Its not overly heavy. But is a pull along.
Its very effective. Far better than the dyson and vax it replaced. I had always had uprights until this purchase & was sceptical.
Its both satisfying and mortifying how visibly different areas look after using it.
That said I also have horrific carpet that is common in rentals (we havent replaced it yet) and dog hair weaves into it. That doesnt come out easily no matter how many times I hoover.0 -
I find the Shark DuoClean Liftaway to be an excellent vacuum for pet hair.0

Dad just got a Vax Machair Revive and it manages all my shed hair and dander no problem, he needs to empty the container more often than his old one so that it doesn't get compacted.

It would be worth running an advanced search. There are a couple of lengthy relevant threads on this board and I *think* there is one over on Old Style too.
I have a Which? Subscription: the Best Buys in the cordless vacuum category are dominated by Dyson and Bosch. They report little difference between the last few Dyson models, save the price and the size of the bin. Bosch work out cheaper but less easy to change the attachments.
Have you considered having your existing Dyson cordless professionally serviced?

Another vote for the Shark Due Lift Away. I've got 2 collies, one of them likes your seems to shed more hair than it seems possible to produce, and this vacuum keeps on top of it. Quite frequently on offer too so well worth keeping an eye out, I see it quite often around the £200 mark.
