You can also get chemical cleaners that are very good like patio magic they work after a few days usage. Also good on fences too to remove algae0 -
Clean them with Sodium Hydrochloride, patio cleaner 15% plus strength.0

I would jetwash first then review if chemicals are needed and another jetwash.
It can be a messy job and might need the rotary needle jet(dirt blaster nozzle).
Splash guards help.
A patio/deck cleaner attachments probably not up to the job.

Don’t paint them. It will look awful. Pressure wash them as advised but if the lichen is bad the pressure washer won’t touch it as it will be ingrained. You’ll need chemicals (patio magic won’t cut it either - it will get rid of algae and general dirt but not black lichen).0
