help with scrapping my car
Never had to do this before - Reluctantly I am having to scrap my beloved car. The slave cylinder has gone and the garage quoted £1,200 to fix as cylinder is situated under gearbox, which needs to be removed and clutch has been contaminated. I have decided its not worth spending this as the car is old 05 plate. is it better to scrap or sell for repair or spares. Any advice, tips on this procedure would be gratefully received. Thank you

Either scrap it after getting a price first or if you're not happy with the price stick it on eBay as a non runner starting at 99p.0

Seems a bit pricey. Its a similar story with my car, it takes several hours to do the job and I'd expect change out of £800. As most of the cost is labour I'd take the advice above and stick it on Ebay/Facebook stuff for sale page for a couple of hundred quid. Someone who is handy with spanners will take it off you. This is a system account and does not represent a real person. To contact the Forum Team email forumteam@moneysavingexpert.com0

I've used cartakeback (found online) 3 times over the last few years with no issues and always got a reasonable price and completed the paperwork properly
. I once fell for a local collector and like a fool, because he was a local and I trusted him, gave him the whole log book, so the car stayed registered to me and I got caught for no tax. Make sure you retain your part of the V5c would be my advice based on that!0 -
What car is it? We got the OH's Nissan Note 1.4 petrol repaired, it was a part inside the gearbox (concentric slave cylinder I believe).
Remove and refit gearbox, replace faulty part and put a new clutch in for £350 all in. That was a local independent I've used for years.0 -
do you want to get money from the "sale" of the scrap car?
if NOT, then please consider donating it to your local fire brigade for use by them as a training aid.
I don't know if all fire brigades do this, but Surrey certainly do as I just got rid of mine that way 1 month ago. Their website implies they may pay for it, but in my case I could not be bothered with a few £, and just wanted it gone from the driveway asap, so he came and collected it within a few hours of my contacting him on a Sunday
have since had the DVLA notification that I am no longer the registered keeper and I see on the DVLA that the car has indeed been scrapped
obviously of no use if not in Surrey, but google may find something like this for your location?

If your car still actually drives and has an MOT, Cartake back will give a lot more than scrap value. A lot of their cars cars are sold in Copart auctions. Don’t accept their offer straight away, they normally comeback with a higher one.0
