At least you respect your "hallowed" bricks.

Traditional walls are usually conducted of two leaves of brick/block with a cavity between. The cavity provides additional sound insulation, and fire resistance. That isprobably what your father has.

I wonder if you have a single wall of hollow bricks? Although better at sound insulating than one of solid brick, it would not be as good as two leaves of brick plus cavity.

That would be the case for most houses built since about the 1920s and for external walls. Not sure if it's ever been traditional to build cavity walls as party walls. Before that it was traditional to build exterior walls with no cavity, either two layers of brick or stone directly back to back, two layers filled with rubble in between for thicker walls or even just a single layer for cheaply/poorly built and shorter structures.

I've worked on plenty of sites since the mid 60's were the party walls were either 9 inch brickwork or 9 inch concrete block walls. A cavity would be required when the levels were stepped and the top of the wall would be exposed.

Hard to tell from the photo is the brick around 1" thick?

I would remove all sockets from the party wall certainly at the minimum, use surface boxes, But if its as bad as you say build a stud wall with then 2 layers of sound block plaster board, do some googling on how to do it correctly.
