Safe way to sell new electronic item?

I have an Apple product that is still in its packaging (unwanted gift) and would like to sell it, but I'm concerned about the risks of doing so via ebay (e.g. seller claiming not received or that the box was empty, etc.).

Just wondering what options are out there that you folks may recommend as being safe? Or if ebay is ok, what precautions should be taken when selling/shipping the item?

  • You could try Facebook Market Place and Gumtree, this will eliminating the fact that you need to deal with postage and PayPal, and meaning you can stick with the person collecting and you accepting cash only.

Not the best option but shops like CEX will give you cash. Simple but you wont get anywhere near as much for it.

Spread the word with friends and family unless you dont want them to know your selling it.

Two options (1) cash on collection (2) postage fully insured up to full item value. Make sure take a record of the box weight before giving it to the courier (RM will print the actual weight of the parcel on the receipt) + take photos of the packaging.

Far too risky , a difficult buyer pays by PayPal and causes no end of problems for the seller.

Thanks all. It's a shame that in this day and age there is still potential for troublesome buyers to create issues for honest sellers.

Someone mentioned Shpock, but their website isn't working. Can't see FAQs or terms.

Maybe a classified advert on the customer notices board at Tesco is a safe way to go about doing this in 2019 :rotfl:
