    @OP, you are unable to make any changes during the switch because of the risk of something going wrong during the process - don't worry though, your old/new banks will make sure that any payments that are due to go out during that time are honoured (pending sufficient funds in your account). If anything does go wrong, then you will be covered under the direct debit guarantee and the bank will reimburse any losses you experience.

    If you have SOs/DDs that you are trying to cancel because they no longer need to go out, then you will need to contact your bank if it cannot wait until after the switch to sort them out.
