Options
I was with MBNA a few months back, with my abbey credit card, but since the sanrander group has taken over and my mbna switch

Now straight away on the switch the charged me £12 late payment in july

i rang and they admited it was a fault in system and they refunded the month after

Then in august they charged me 12p interest,,i know its only 12p but im in a 0% period

and now again in october have charged me a £12 late fee again.grrrrr

ive rang and they keep saying its the new system,,and will refund me the 12p,and £12

I asked for an extension on my 0% as good will gesture because of the amount of phone calls ive made about this, but they said NO

Anyway these late charges ive accoured by there fault, are they going to go on my credit score????

the nightmae im having with this is doing my head in

thanks for any help, and sorry if this has been addressed before

The interest probably accrued because of the charge, so don't be too surprised if you keep getting interest from now on each month.

I don't know how their systems work but you could check to the following:

    1. Did the interest accrue because of the late payment charge.
    2. If yes, is it still going to accrue, if no then great.
    3. If it is going to carry on accruing then what are they going to do about it?

They may just apply a refund every month or as it is likely to be easier for them they may just decide to give you a lump sum refund now. Depending on how their systems work there are other ways they could stop the interest but its too complicated to put here; too many ifs and buts.

You'll need to check with them if it'll affect your credit score. Their own internal system it could do, it won't affect other companies assestments of you. Make sure you check your credit file with one of the credit reference agencies such as Experian etc to make sure they haven't recorded it as a late payment with them.

    Thanks for your help

im not sure if the interest accrud because of the late payment,,they dont,or more the person i spoke to.

    here is how it happened
    july late payment
august late payment refunded then 12p interest put on
    september was no problems
    then october late payment
not got novembers statment yet,but is there is interest on then it must be the late payment.

I will check to see if it has been recorded with experian (good idea :D )

TBH-im thining of transfering the credit to another card now,,ive heard endless problems with abbey at the moment, and to have watchdog (if you seen it last week)

    thanks for your help,much appreciated

TBH Craggs I think you'd be better off transferring to another card as ABBEy are caussing a multitude of problems for their customers due to a switchover in computer systems.

Cards not being delivered, incorrect charges being applied to accounts, non-payment of interest due on current accounts, yearly interest rather than monthly interest applied to savings accounts are just a few of the problems being encountered by customers not to mention their appalling customer service.
A few months ago I would have said that it would be impossible to beat A&L's failures, but ABBEY have left them for dead. I don't think anyone could be as bad as them. Just ask the BBC's WATCHDOG programme as their file on them is getting bigger and bigger and bigger all the time.

Exactly. I have an Abbey card. All was okay when run by MBNA, but things have gone haywire since Santander took over and I'm in the process of transferring the balance to another card. It's just not worth the aggravation.
