Query about neighbouring house repo

the lady who lived opposite me was quite open and told us she was bankrupt and has since left the home and i understand is living in a Disability house in another area.

What i am wondering is, is there a way in which one could find out what is happening with the house, i ask as we would be interested in purchasing it but so far there are no notices in the windows and the neighbour seems to have a key who comes and goes from there with im presuming the previous occupants belongings

Long shot, contact the Official Receiver.

For what it's worth, I don't think this would be rude at all. You're not being nosy or making assumptions. You know for a fact that the house is now empty and it seems unlikely that the previous occupant is returning, and you have a genuine interest in buying it. Asking the neighbour if they are aware of what's going on, or know of anyone you can contact, isn't rude, it's just practical and may benefit the owner and/or the neighbourhood in general in the long run.

Just be polite and be ready to take no for an answer, that's all.

If it's going to be sold either by a mortgage lender or because of bankruptcy, it has to be marketed publicly, so (a) you'll no doubt notice, and (b) you won't have an opportunity to get in early and do any sort of private deal. Do you know that the previous resident was the owner?

For £3 you can download the deeds from the official Land Registry site and that will tell you the lender. Try contacting their repossession department. Even if they won't sell to you, they could tell you which local estate agent they use to handle their repo sales.

    1) the mortgag lender, assuming she had a mortgage, will be listed in S3 - the Charges Register.

    2) if sh has gone bankrupt, the Official Receiver will take possession. If she has failed to pay her mortgage, the lender may take possession.

    3) if the possession order has not yet been granted by a court, there may still be an opportunity tobuy direct from the 'owner', assuming of course that what you pay is sufficient for her to remove any Charge (see 1 above) by paying off her outstanding mortgage.

Even if you can contact someone dealing with it, they're not going to discuss any potential repo etc with you as you're not the customer.
