My Golf R warranty runs out next month.
I have been offered (by VW)named component warranty for £222 (£100 excess) 12 months or all component cover for £277.

The car is a 2015 with 34k miles and the DSG 'box.

What do you reckon?

I don't think the price is bad.

Save your money, possibly gt the VW extended warranty (which is subject to T&Cs) costs more but you get the warranty as from new, the 3rd party are rarely worth it.
PS the gearbox needs an oil change at 40K.

does it? I don't think mine got one. Oh well, its a company car and I'm leaving before the next service.

Not sure what you mean. It IS a VW extended warranty and the car still wont have done 40k in a years time so oil change on dsg doesn't matter.

It covers all main components that are likely to fail. Engine, turbo timing chain,DSG, starter, alternator, it looks pretty comprehensive, even catalyst.

as with all these types of warranties the detail is in the fine print, which ever way you decide to go read that first and get clarifi9cation from the dealer on any points you are not certain of.

Sounds like it only covers the cost of parts? If so you might be surprised at how much labour is charged on most jobs. Need to check T&Cs

That seems awfully cheap. I would certainly be tempted.

The thing to bear in mind is whether you have the necessary access to funds to pay for a large bill in the event that you need one in the next year. If you don't have access to, say, £2,000 that you could readily use towards a repair, it makes sense that you would want to cover for this eventuality, as it reduces your exposure to financial risk.

If you do, well with hindsight it would have been nice to have taken the policy and only paid out ~10% of that cost, but it didn't cause you any significant financial hardship. Statistically speaking, it's far more likely that you will spend less than £277 on repairs over the next year.

If that is the case and it's a £100 excess then one use and its a steal.
