I wonder if someone can help, I have booked a hotel using 35000 avios points. My mother is in hospital and I may have to claim off travel insurance, How does it work with Avios? Does BA need to give me a price for what the hotel would have been?
Loved our trip to the West Coast USA. Death Valley is the place to go!

https://www.telegraph.co.uk/money/consumer-affairs/buy-flight-airmiles-avios-travel-insurance-wont-cover/The exclusion in Aviva’s travel insurance policy is typical: “This policy won’t cover … any claim for … unused travel or accommodation arranged by using air miles, loyalty or points-based ownership schemes, timeshares or similar promotions.”
BA Travel insurance will likely cover them. But did you buy BA travel insurance?0 -
BA refund you the Avios used if you cancel a booking, that's why I use them almost exclusively if I think my plans may changeThe common law of business balance prohibits paying a little and getting a lot. If you deal with the lowest bidder, it is well to add something for the risk you run, and if you do that you will have enough to pay for something better.0

Used insurefor. Can cancel up to 72 hours for free, after than there is a fee. If we cancel, do they give you back the points?Loved our trip to the West Coast USA. Death Valley is the place to go!0 -

You need to contact BA and ask them. Reward flights, yes. But hotel bookings might be treated differently.0 -
For a reward flight, if you cancel more than 24 hours before your flight, the avios are refunded. There is a fee to do this of about £30 per person.
I realise you asked about a hotel booking, I don't know the answer to that.I'm a Forum Ambassador on the housing, mortgages, student & coronavirus Boards, money saving boards. Just spoke to BA. Up to 72hours, we would have to pay £35 to cancel and all the points are refunded. We could then look to recover the £35 from the travel insuranceLoved our trip to the West Coast USA. Death Valley is the place to go!0
