Timescale expectations when Exchanging/completing.

Had an offer accepted in January. All our searches/survey/mortage offer etc was completed by the start of March. Since then we have been waiting patiently with our only updates from our Solicitor being that "We are still waiting for repsonses to enquiries from the other side"...
anyway I got the same response this morning so phoned the EA straight away and for the first time in the process made it clear I was starting to get a bit miffed with the hold up.
EA basically said that the vendor and other solicitor have emailed this morning and are hoping to complete next week. Baring in mind our solicitor is still waiting for enquiries, We havent exchanged or transferred any sort of funds and we are now heading into a bank holiday weekend am I silly to think that this timescale is a bit ridiculous?
We've been waiting 3 months with absolutely no updates or estimated completion/exchange dates provided and go on holiday for the weekend tomorrow and have a very busy week with other committments next week. I don't want it to now look like we are delaying things when we have been waiting months with no updates. Am I being unreasonable if we now have to be blunt and make it clear we are unable to complete next week?

What's the cause of the delay. Onward purchase?0

What enquiries are outstanding?
Another case of not your own solicitor causes the holdup - it is always the other parties solicitors fault.
I would suggest a date for Exchange in the near future that may shake others into action.
It is for you to suggest this not solicitors.
Good luck0 -
Give your solicitor a clear instruction as to the earliest (and latest?) date you are willing to Complete.
Also give him any specific dates (or indeed days of the week) you do not wish toComplete (eg because on holiday, can't get Tuesdays off work, whatever) no reason need be given but your solicior cannot read your mind!
Make clear you are happy to Exchange asap. If you want a specific gap (eg 2 weeks, 3 whatever) between exchange and Completion, make this clear to your solicitor.
Ask what the outstanding Enquiries are (and whether still outstandig). They may or may not be critical and you may be happy to proceed without them (though your lender may/may not agree).0
