Is it easy to open an additional current account?
I currently have a nationwide flex direct and have been offered to upgrade to flex plus but I think this means closing the flexdirect account ?
I would like a second account to keep things separate as I have two different incomes.
Thanks

It's usually considered best to have another account with a different bank in case you have problems with your existing bank at anytime. Just choose a bank go online & open an account. It may be that simple or there may be more to it, they'll let you know.Tall, dark & handsome. Well two out of three ain't bad.0

The FlexPlus account has added extras such as insurances, but comes with a £13/month monthly fee. You can often get equivalent cover elsewhere for a cheaper price, so it might be worth shopping around just to compare your options to see if you can find equivalent cover for cheaper than £13/month (£156/year). That said, there is absolutely no reason why you cannot have multiple current accounts - plenty of people on the forums here do so. It's often recommended to have an account with a second bank in order to minimise any issues should you have problems with your main bank.
As for your specific situation, it's likely that Nationwide will simply change the designation on your account when they upgrade it - the account will still exist as it always has (same account numbers, etc) but now with the added extras and fees. If you log into your online banking, you should be able to apply for a second Flex account - either a FlexDirect if you choose to upgrade your existing account, or a brand new FlexPlus if you choose not to upgrade. Either way this will be subject to a hard credit check on your credit file and may be decline if you have any issues in your files - just something to keep in mind.0 -
I've got three current accounts with three different providers (none are part of the same banking group) it's easy to apply for a current account online.
The new provider may ask you to take ID into a branch.Mortgage started 2020, aiming to clear 31/12/2029.0 -
It might be an idea to look at a bank like Starling for a second account. Well reviewed and offer some great features compared to traditional banks.0

Its good practice to have at least 2 anyway.
Its worth looking at the different benefits they offer.
Eg have Santander 123 lite for paying household bills as get cashback
Use co-op everyday rewards for small contactless payments like buying a pint at the pub as get cashback on that
Various high interest ones can be glorified savings accounts holding cash for emergencies
