Traffic Violation from South Africa
I received an email on 20th May to say that a car I rented in South Africa was photographed on 20th December 2018 travelling at 74 kph where the speed limit is 60.
The amount is for R200 to be paid by February 2019.
I have also received an invoice from Europcar for R300 as an admin fee for passing on my details.
5 months down the line I have no clue if I was in that area and indeed speeding, is it possible to challenge this or indeed ignore it?
Is the charge by the rental company reasonable given the actual effort that will have gone into this admin task?

£5.50 admin fee is way over what it should be0

200ZAR is eleven quid.
You obviously know whether you were driving a rental car in South Africa on the date or not... And it's the work of moments to figure out whether the location was where you may have been within the country or not.
Do you think it even remotely possible to be accurate?
How much time, effort and blood pressure do you want to put into eleven quid?
And whether the rental company's £16.50 charge is "reasonable" is beside the point, since you agreed to it in the rental contract. Again, how much time/effort/blood pressure...?0 -
I would just pay it. If you have plans to return to SA (and you should, it is a beautiful country) then you must. Don't underestimate the amount of pain an unpaid fine will cause you at immigration in SA. For the sake of £28, it aint worth it.0

Happy to pay the fine and it's a reasonable amount but I'm a bit concerned that it's now overdue by 3 months and might no longer be R200.
And not paying the hire company will not affect my relationship with the South African government and an admin fee that is an extra 50% more than the actual fine seems excessive.0 -

The £5.50 admin fee isn't excessive the fine is just low.0 -
The admin fee is for R300 on top of the R200 that the fine is for.0

The total amount to pay is about £30, They may have already taken this off your credit card. This is a system account and does not represent a real person. To contact the Forum Team email forumteam@moneysavingexpert.com0
