Do the PIP/Pension Credit People Need to Know This?

Hi,

I live with my parents and they get PIP (mum) and Pension Credit (dad).

I've just found employment (contracted to make over £12,000 and work 30 hours) and am expecting my job search benefit (Universal Credit) to end soon.

Do the PIP/Pension Credit people need to know this?

Many thanks.

No. Your parents are separate benefit unit to you and their Pension Credit is unaffected by your income. PIP is not means tested anyway. The one benefit that may be affected is Council Tax Reduction if they are claiming that. It may make a difference to the amount of contribution you are expected to make towards their Council Tax bill. To be safe I think it would therefore be sensible to inform the local authority (if applicable).

If they are not already claiming Council Tax Reduction but dad is getting guarantee part of pension Credit then they should claim it.
Information I post is for England unless otherwise stated. Some rules may be different in other parts of UK.

    Thank you for responding.

Yes, I have sent my local council a letter (on my dad's behalf) about my employment/Universal Credit.

I've just checked with my mum and my mum said they don't have to pay council tax.

Would the fact that I'm employed affect that (or is that only if I'm the home owner)?

I was under the impression that if the claimant is claiming PIP care etc and is in receipt of CTR then no deduction would be made if a non dependant (yourself) lives with them

Absolutely right - I overlooked that, thanks for correcting me. OP your change should make no difference to your parents Council Tax Reduction because your mum gets PIP. Apologies for misleading you in my earlier post.
