Rivet broken on window hinge

Hi,

Rivet has broken that connects two sliding flat metal hinges at top of double-glazed window. So the 2 sections are detached from each other thus preventing window closure.

The head of the rivet is wider and much flatter than a normal rivet ( to prevent catching on frame i assume )

I have a nornal rivet gun, but as it looks like a specialised rivet i called a local window company.

explained the situation and that i thought it just needed rivet drilling out and replacing, but he said that wouldnt be the case and the hinges would need replacing ( this without seeing it )

They cant get anyone out to me till after weekend in any case, but am i potentially being skanked here ?

Hopefully the dry weather continues , but the dawn chorus at 5 am ish ( although beautiful ) is a bit annoying :rotfl:

Yup. These things are designed in a way as to make them non-repairable. Replacing the hinge is the only option for most. Fortunately, places like Screwfix do a range of replacement hinges - https://www.screwfix.com/c/security-ironmongery/window-hinges/cat841002
