Carers allowance

Hi I have revived carers allowance for last year.
My tax credit renewal has come how much do I put down.
I've been paid monthly and some people are paid weekly.
The carers unit don't send you paperwork to say how much has been paid to you.

Previous year the tac credit people already has it filled in it was about 3200 for the year.

I think I've been paid 245. A month for last year

Does anyone know the figure

Thank you.

Carers Allowance is usually paid 4 weekly (not monthly). The weekly rate for last year was £64.60/week. I would expect you to have been getting £258.40 every 4 weeks. If you had it all year you will have received £64.60 x 52 = £3,359.20.

This actually misses off a few days but I think simple 52 week calculation is generally accepted for HMRC purposes.

I did think that, because it's taxable income, Carer's Allowance would issue you with a P60.

When you come to think of it, State Pension (albeit paid gross), is also taxable income but DWP don't issue P60s.:)

Good point - I just seemed to remember receiving a P60 when I received contribution based JSA a few years ago (but perhaps I made that up!).

Thanks _shel. In that case it would be consistent if they also sent them for CA.

Nope, never had a P60 for Carers. It's the most asked question on disability forums at this time of the year - "How much in total was last year's CA?"

The debate is then around whether you should add on the £10 Christmas bonus or not ...

Christmas bonus is excluded from taxable income

I note this guidance also says you should add up the payments actually received during the year.

(This is different to guidance in State Pension where it says amounts should be worked out by multiplying the weekly amount by the relevant number of weeks and explicitly says this may not match the amount actually received).
