Fund raising committee for scout troop
Hi there!
Our scout troop needs a new roof and we are setting up a fund raising committee for it! I have been volunteered to sit as chair as i am the scout leader too..
Is there anything i need to do in order to set up this committee? Scouts Association is a reg charity anyway...
I know i need an official secretary, anything else? Is it ok to just have a group of parents and get them to help out?
Any advice gratefully recieved!
Thanks!

Does your Group have a 'committee' already? If so, this would be a sub-committee, reporting to the main committee.
TBH I don't think there's a lot you need to do to make this official, other than ensuring that all the money is correctly accounted for through the Group's accounts, which would be the Group Treasurer's responsibility. If it takes longer than a year, then money raised or given specifically for the new roof would need to be 'designated funds' in the accounts.
I would contact your district for further advice though, you're not the first and won't be the last Scout group with a major building project on their hands, no point re-inventing the wheel!
Good luck!Signature removed for peace of mind0 -

If you can make the local papers with the story they mention the website for youEx forum ambassador

Approach your Community Councils for help with funding, they often have funds they don't know what to do with. We have had a lot of help with upgrading our Guide Hall this way.
Our local Council also runs a help centre for "Voluntary Services" and can point worthy causes in the direction of funding. They also keep lists of charitable foundations that specialise in helping certain types of groups, or groups only in certain areas.0
