Neighbour Building a Garage

Hi,
My neighbour is building a garage in their back garden. I've not seen any plans yet so i am not sure how large it is and where/how close to the boundary the wall will be.
I understand the permitted development legislation so i'll look out for the height restrictions. However, with regard to party wall, is there anything i can do/anything i should know about? They previously built an extension on the party wall without the required consent. However, as it was my nans house, she wasn't too bothered about it at the time.
It's a 1930 semi... We are not paired but we share a fence line.

If they are not paired with you, how can they build the garage on the party wall?0

I understand if the build is within 1m of a boundary Building Control will be required and possibly Planning as well.
Each Department have different criteria for involvement - check Planning Portal. Local Authority website to search for Planning submissions - or call the departments and ask their involvement or criteria.
Good luck0 -
I'm a planner so i'm sure they do not need permission but as of yet, i cannot see where they propose to build the foundations.I am guessing that the OP means a garage with one of the walls on the boundary line.
Indeed. They haven't done it yet but the extension they previously built was on the boundary line. i have a feeling that they will do this with the garage.0 -

Hi, sorry to hijack this thread but could I ask. Got neighbours who applied to change their extension. The new roof they want to place on is on our property by a foot. The council approved their plans even though we pointed this out.
I understand each council will have their own rules regs etc but is the fact that the neighbour doesn't even own part of the land they want to change not considered by planning?0 -

I could be wrong (no expert!) but I don't think planners consider ownership or boundaries in the process. I for instance could request planning for something on your property.
Of course that doesn't then translate into a right to build as they can't build on your land so would have to negotiate purchse/easement or if you refuse (which you should!) then amend their plans.
Of course it could be they disagree on the boundary and what is actually yours/theirs.0 -

No, it isn't. A new house was built next door to me and one of the conditions of the planning approval was that the entrance to the drive was widened. To do so meant removing three feet of wall. My wall.
Very similar to your neighbour, I received planning permission for a garage whose roof will overhang my neighbour's property. Luckily, my neighbour doesn't mind.0 -
