Driving on an Australian licence
My brother moved to Australia when he was about 6 with he's family. He came over for a month visit and insured a car to drive. The insurance have written saying he can drive on it for 12 months but since he's been a resident since 1993 when he was born they'll cancel the insurance.
He's plan was to come back in august on a 2 year visa and apply for a UK licence. What can we supply to prove he's never used it in this country before?
Thanks

A foreign licence holder can drive in the UK for a maximum of 12mo at a time. Not cumulative. Even if they're resident.
And if he lived here from 1993-1999, then elsewhere from 1999-now, he's not a UK resident... Sounds like the insurer has their wires crossed. When he gets here this time, he just books a UK test, drives on his Aus licence until that comes up, then drives on his UK one.0 -
He moved out to aus when he was about 6 and not lived anywhere else. So when he comes over on he's visa he can use he's AU's license for 12 months and then apply for a UK one?0

Yep. I was wrong above - he doesn't even need take a test - Aus has an "exchange agreement" with the UK.

I’m originally from Australia and now resident in the UK for a number of years. Dead easy DVLA swap of my Oz driving licence for a British licence. No retest as the basic road rules are quite similar (except left turns).0

I've never noticed any difference in left turns. At least, not in WA and Victoria. What am I missing?0
