Signing on but getting no money

My husband has been signing on for a number of years but receives no money, only getting NI credits. He has received a letter from Pensions Service telling him he has 34 years credits and needs a minimum of 30 to receive the full basic state pension.
The question is - is there any point in continuing to sign on and having to attend Job Centre interview when told to?
BTW I am in full time employment and only benefit we get is WFTC.

I think I am right in saying that you can only claim JSA for so long. If your husband wants to work and can't find a job then he should be asking what he can do and if there is any training available when he goes to sign on. If he has a disability, then he should be working with a Disability Employment Advisor - they can be found in the Job Centre.
I am currently receiving JSA having started signing on in August - the Job Centre have told me that I can claim until February after which time I won't get any money although I hope to land my dream job on Tuesday.0 -
In the letter it says "DWP are introducing new rules, which mean that you will only need 30 qualifying years for a full basic State Pension."
Thats for those who reach State Pension age on or after 6 April 2010 - see the pension website http://www.thepensionservice.gov.uk/pensions-reform/home.asp0 -

No there is no point him signing on if he has more than the minimum qualifying years to receive a full state pension. Just to be sure it would be a good idea to get a state pension forecast to see what his pension is likely to be. He needs to ask for and complete form BR19.0 -
One thing you may wish to consider is "do you need to be signing on to receive payments on insurance policies?"
EG credit card cover, mortgage cover etc.
These policies require you to be unemployed and signing on in order to receive the payment from the insurers.
If this isn't an issue, and you understand fully the pension that will be paid following the contact from the Pensions Service, you really don't need to continue signing on.
For males, between 60 and 65, auto credits of NI stamps are made. In effect, this negates the need to sign on, especially if there is no monetary value at present when signing on.0 -
thanks for that.
as to the getting a pension forecast - I was considering that for myself however.....http://www.thepensionservice.gov.uk/planningahead/options/basic-faqs.asp0 -

why cant he get a job
That is none of our business as the OP has not asked for advice on him getting a job.
I signed on for credits only for a while when it suited our family situation to do so. I received no public money, we lived on my husband's salary.
There can be all sorts of reasons.(AKA HRH_MUngo)

Imagine someone holding forth on biology whose only knowledge of the subject is the Book of British Birds, and you have a rough idea of what it feels like to read Richard Dawkins on theology: Terry Eagleton0 -
tell me to mind my own business if you like but why cant he get a job0

How do you know it's not relevant without knowing what the full facts are?As said that is not relevant.
What is the point of signing on for JSA & going to the Job Centre Interviews if you don't look for a job? The whole point of signing on & going to those interviews is to prove you are actually looking for a job, if you're not doing that then you really shouldn't be signing on.Winnings
