Car door opened onto someone else’s
Hello! New poster so please forgive me...
I opened our rear door onto someone else’s car earlier and being, it would seem, too honest, told them about it (they are an acquaintance). There is a small chip about 3mm long and not as wide which is barely visible and as far as I can tell it doesn’t go down to the metalwork (it was a very gentle nudge). I offered to put it right by getting some t-cut or similar but as the car is owned by her husband’s employer (Ford), they want it done properly. Annoying but perhaps understandable. So the garage he works at (without seeing the damage) have quoted £474 total incl. VAT for the work. The mark is about 3mm across at most. Does this sound normal or am I being charged over the odds and perhaps also for the pre-existing dent on the front passenger door?!
Also, do I have to use the garage that they have received the quote from (as I said, where the husband works...) or can I find my own garage to carry out the work (or indeed claim on our insurance if it will be more than our excess?)
Thank you!

Well you cant repair a chip or scratch properly ......he is entitled to have it repaired as good as new so the whole door will need to be sprayed
As regards the price after vat its £395 it then depends which part of country you are plus main dealer is always going to be top price0 -

can it be fixed by someone like Chipsaway? But the choice is not yours but the car owners.0

I have seen the process on YouTube, where all the paint is removed from the door, than sanding, than there is the undercoat, than it is spray painted. Then it may be waxed. This is the more permanent solution, obviously it must be an expensive car but chipsaway is the norm, or DIY with sanding compound and a very swirls with a paint brush. When you look into an abyss, the abyss also looks into you. Please note that at no point during this work was the kettle ever put out of commission and no chavs were harmed during the making of this post.0 -
